DETOUR ENDED ON SEPT 25. CT Collegiate West travelers can resume following the normal CT/CDNST route.
Affecting the co-located CDNST and the Collegiate West route on The Colorado Trail (CT) this closure is due to a tree cutting and helicopter removal project to mitigate hazards caused by the beetle endemic. It is immediately above Monarch Mountain Ski Area. Please bookmark this CTF Blog Post for future reference and share it widely.
Expect closure signs blocking off about 1.6 miles of the CT Collegiate West north of Highway 50 at Monarch Pass. Expect detour signs and orange flagging along the 3.2 mile detour, about 1.6 miles longer than the route when not closed. Short 15-minute trail-traveler delays may also happen during helicopter operations.
Closed part of the CT Collegiate West CW05
CW05 mile 7.5 (From Denver, CW mile 258.4)
to
CW05 mile 9.1 (From Denver, CW mile 260.0)
The detour route will travel to the west of the ski area using a combination of the Old Monarch Pass road and the original 1880’s wagon route over the Continental Divide, Old-Old Monarch Pass.
See the topo map showing the closure and detour.
