Update – Waterton Canyon Reopened July 6, 2020. See notice here.
CLOSED. Sadly…WATERTON CANYON IS CLOSED. According to officials with Denver Water, the PARKING AND TRAIL CLOSURE BEGAN WED MARCH 18, 2020. It will remain closed (gated and patrolled) until further notice.
REASON. According to CTF supporter Bobbie Hickman’s friend who works for Denver Water, the reason for the closure is that there had been a significant increase in Canyon recreators which elevated the risk of COVID-19 to the DW employees and that could interfere with day to day operations of the dam, Denver’s water supply.
CT SEGMENT 1. The closure affects only the Waterton Canyon part of CT Segment 1, the first 6.7 miles of Seg 1. Your first-opportunity, non-closed entry point, though, is Lenny’s Rest Bench at mile 7.9 of Seg 1, where the side trails from both Indian Creek Trailhead and Roxborough State Park intersect the CT.
