Posted July 9, 2020 LIKELY IN 2021 THIS WILL REMAIN UNCHANGED –

Great news. Beginning July 6, 2020, Waterton Canyon, the trail, is OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK.

  • Now Open 7 Days A Week (the canyon and trail are fairly normal *, opening a half hour before sunrise and closing a half hour after sunset)
  • No Overnight Parking
  • No Potable Water (canyon spigots/fountains are off; river water available needs filtering and/or treating)

These circumstances will be in place until further notice. Authorities with DenverWater.org oversee and patrol the area.

WATERTON START. Colorado Trail travelers wanting to start from Denver (on any day of the week) can start from Waterton Canyon, utilizing the information presented on the Starting in Denver page at ColoradoTrail.org and in the different CT guides available via the CT Store.

WATERTON ALTERNATIVES. CT travelers who have dogs might want to start at Indian Creek Trailhead. Those preferring singletrack in place of the closed-to-public-vehicles Waterton Canyon road walk might choose to start either at Indian Creek Trailhead or at Roxborough State Park. Potentially helpful are the bottom-of-the-page info plus the linked map presented here:
